JUGETSUDO CELEBRATES HANAMI 💮

Savor the beauty of cherry blossoms

A true ode to nature awakening after this long period of retrenchment, it is time to reconnect with the first sensations of spring by welcoming Hanami, synonymous with blossoming in Japan.

Jugetsudo invites you to celebrate this custom so dear to the hearts of all those who fall under the spell of the sakura flower, the emblem of Japan.

Hanami

Hanami, the Japanese tradition of admiring the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms, embodies the very essence of spring and holds deep cultural significance, symbolizing renewal, the transience of life, and communal celebration.

Sakura Zensen (桜前線) is a word that refers to the progression of the cherry blossom front across Japan. Since the Japanese archipelago stretches from north to south, the blooming period of sakura varies greatly depending on the region and climate.

For example, in the southernmost regions, such as Okinawa , cherry trees begin to bloom as early as early January , while in the north, on the island of Hokkaido , flowering does not occur until May .

This is why the Japanese closely follow the Sakura Zensen , which is regularly announced by meteorologists. This information allows them to know when and where the sakura will be in full bloom in their region, in order to enjoy this ephemeral spectacle and celebrate hanami (花見), the tradition of admiring the cherry blossoms.

Here is the forecast for cherry blossom in 2025. You can see that there is a one month difference between Tokyo and Sapporo.

Sakuramochi by Shiraishi Manabu

Sakuramochi is a traditional Japanese pastry that evokes spring. It consists of a thin pink pastry enveloping a filling of sweet red bean paste ( anko ). The whole thing is delicately wrapped in a cherry leaf marinated in salt.

This wagashi is appreciated for its subtle balance between sweetness and slight saltiness, as well as for its unique aroma, characteristic of cherry leaves. This harmony of flavors and aromas makes sakuramochi a delicacy prized by all.

This pastry is prepared by Mr. Shiraishi Manabu.
