Tea buds begin to form in the autumn, remain tightly closed throughout the winter, and open in late March and early April. These shoots have a very distinctive, mild flavor because they contain a high concentration of theanine, which has survived the winter. Our first green tea is carefully prepared using these early buds.
The "Satsuma no Hashiri" tea leaves were harvested in April in the Satsuma region (Kagoshima Prefecture) on the island of Kyushu (southern Japan). The very mild climate of this Satsuma region promotes the development of a delicate sweetness in its tea leaves. Light and refreshing, it develops a pleasant aroma of young leaves and evokes renewal.
