Terracotta cup / "Azuki" Mashiko (G)
Mashiko-yaki brown terracotta cup with beige polka dots "Azuki" made in the Sayadowada kiln in Mashiko in Tochigi prefecture. The “texture of the clay†is an interesting aspect of Mashiko pottery. The clay is sandy and has a low viscosity. For this reason it is not suitable for fine work and is inevitably made thick. Its chunky shape and simple, soft texture are characteristic of Mashiko items.
