Matcha bowl with a golden rooster motif and the characters for “heaven,” “earth,” and “spring,” crafted by Kikko Jyusoken VIII (born in 1948), master artisan of the Kikko kiln in Osaka.
The Kinkei (golden rooster) is a mythical rooster said to live in the heavens. When it crows to announce the dawn, the roosters on earth respond in chorus. The rooster is one of the twelve animals of the zodiac.
