Matcha bowl with a golden rooster motif and characters signifying "sky", "earth" and "spring" made by Kikko Jyusoken VIII (1948-), master craftsman at the Kikko kiln in Osaka.
The Kinkei (golden rooster) is an imaginary rooster said to live in the heavens. When this rooster crows to announce the dawn, the roosters of the earth crow in return. The rooster represents one of the 12 animals of the zodiac.
