Please note, this item is a unique piece.

A Kiyomizu-yaki ceramic "Kogo" incense box in the shape of a clam, decorated with cypress branches, a tortoise, and a crane, made by Shōhei Sugita (1942-) at the Seikanji kiln in Kyoto. Bivalves like the "hamaguri" clam represent marital happiness, as they can only be combined with perfectly matched shells. Furthermore, as the old adage goes, "a crane is made for a thousand years, a tortoise for ten thousand," cranes and tortoises are symbols of longevity, and their depiction together is considered a symbol of a couple enjoying a harmonious old age.
