"Natsumé" matcha box in black lacquered wood with pine, bamboo and plum blossom makié pattern. The “Shôchikubai” pattern drawn here in a very dynamic way, literally represents a set of pine plants, bamboo and plum blossoms. This is an auspicious motif that signifies perseverance and the birth of life. The interior of the box is decorated with a makié technique called "Nashiji": this technique consists of applying a thin layer of lacquer, sprinkling gold, silver or tin powder, then applying transparent lacquer on top. Named after its resemblance to pear skin "Nashi", this technique appeared during the Kamakura period (1185-1333).
