The bamboo whisk called a "chasen" is an essential tool for preparing matcha tea in the "cha no yu" tea ceremony. Simmering water is poured into the matcha bowl, and once whisked with the chasen, the powdered tea becomes a frothy tea. This slender shape is suitable for bowls as well as tall cups.
