Extra-fine gyokuro is produced in Uji, on the outskirts of Kyoto. Gyokuro is shade-grown, covered using straw mats for three weeks prior to the first picking. By protecting the plants from the sun, the amount of theanine in the leaves is increased, which gives the tea more sweetness. A unique thick flavour with an aromatic green freshness.
