Le Hōraku-yaki, une céramique douce autrefois produite dans un village caché près du temple Banshōji à Nagoya, préfecture d’Aichi, a été fabriqué pendant plus de 130 ans, de la fin de l'époque Edo jusqu'à l'ère Taishō, cependant sa production ait aujourd’hui disparu. Le quatrième maître Tōsuke (1813-1858) est célèbre pour avoir introduit une technique unique de laquage et de maki-e sur une partie de la pièce, imitant les outils en bois, innovation qui connut un grand succès. Ses successeurs ont continué cette tradition. Les œuvres portent des sceaux tels que « Rikei », « Hōhachi », « Tōsuke » ou « Hōraku », bien que l’identification précise de chaque génération de créateur soit souvent difficile.
