En 1921 (ère Taisho 10), il devint indépendant à Kiyomizu-zaka, Kyoto, et débuta son activité de céramiste, adoptant le nom d’artiste Kiko. Aujourd’hui, l’atelier Kiko continue de perpétuer les valeurs de son fondateur, Yohei, qui prônait le respect des traditions, tout en cherchant à les appliquer de manière contemporaine.

- 1980 : Lauréat du Prix du Premier Ministre lors de l'Exposition nationale des Arts et Métiers Traditionnels
- 1982 : Lauréat du Prix du Gouverneur de Kyoto lors de l'Exposition Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki
- 1994 : Désigné Maître Artisan de Kyoto
- 1996 : Récompensé pour son apport aux industries traditionnelles de Kyoto
- 1998 : Désigné Maître Artisan de notre époque, avec distinction décernée par le Ministre du Travail pour ses compétences artisanales exceptionnelles »
