Assiette ronde / Kyoto Tosai Sakura

Japanese tradition dictates that artists sign their works with a pseudonym rather than their family name. In 1917, the craftsman Tosai began creating pieces for art enthusiasts throughout Japan. His eldest son, the current Tosai, opened the first Tosai store in 1936 in the prestigious Ginza district.

After the war, the shop was rebuilt and continues to thrive, perpetuating Kyoto's ceramic tradition. Each piece is handcrafted by local artisans and decorated in the family workshop at the foot of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Tosai sincerely hopes that his creations bring you as much joy as he finds in crafting them.
