Hokuto Shimizu 
Born in Kyoto in 1957, Akira Shimizu is a renowned craftsman in the Kyoto Kiyomizu-yaki tradition. A graduate of the Kyoto Ceramics School, he trained under master Kawabe Bisen before establishing his own workshop in 1984. In 1995, he taught himself glass enameling techniques, and in 2006, he was recognized as a master of traditional crafts. Akira Shimizu continues to contribute to ceramic culture as vice president of the Kiyomizu-yaki Craftsmen's Association and president of the Kyoto Iro-e Ceramics Association.
