La tradition japonaise veut que les artistes signent leurs œuvres d’un pseudonyme plutôt que de leur nom de famille. En 1917, l’artisan Tosai commence à créer des pièces pour des amateurs d’art à travers le Japon. Son fils aîné, l’actuel Tosai, ouvre en 1936 le premier magasin Tosai dans le prestigieux quartier de Ginza.
Après la guerre, le magasin est reconstruit et continue de prospérer, perpétuant la tradition de la céramique Kyoyaki. Chaque pièce est fabriquée à la main par des artisans de Kyoto et décorée dans l'atelier familial au pied du temple Kiyomizu. Tosai espère sincèrement que ses créations vous apporteront autant de plaisir que celui qu’ils éprouvent en les façonnant.
