A smooth, nectar-like flavor is extracted from young, early-harvested leaves, giving this tea a refined and gentle taste.
With a light green hue reminiscent of spring, this sencha has no bitterness. It could be described as well-mannered and refined, with rounded edges and no sharpness. While sencha is typically harvested around May 2nd, Haru is picked earlier—during the first half of April—when the young leaves are still tender and have had little exposure to sunlight.
Unlike gyokuro, which is shaded to slow tannin development and enhance sweetness and umami, this sencha is naturally enriched by the first spring light. This process gives it a complex depth of flavor, similar to how ripening enhances the character of fine wine—all while maintaining an exquisite softness.
