Chu-Natsumé / “Oimatsu” makié matcha box
Chu-Natsumé / “Oimatsu” makié matcha box
Matcha box in black lacquered wood with a pattern of old pine trees in gold makié. Pine trees are long-lived and are evergreen trees, which has led to the belief that they are trees that gods have dwelt in since ancient times. Old “oimatsu” pines are very popular in Japan, appearing in Noh plays and traditional “nagauta” songs. Also used for “kadomatsu” New Year decoration, pines are very prestigious and mean in particular “long life” and “dignity”.
