Tokkuri sake carafe / "Kurogaratsu" Rui Mitô
Karatsu-yaki black-brown "Tokkuri" sake carafe (type: kurogaratsu), made by Rui Mitô (1978-), female ceramist in Karatsu, in Saga prefecture. Karatsu ceramics, dating from the 16th century, are designated as a “national craft technique” by Japan. It is characterized by its rustic texture, using raw, rough clay and a variety of decorative techniques. It is also said that Karatsu-yaki is a pottery that improves with use: one of the charms of Karatsu ceramics is that the more it is used, the more the clay changes color and the more fine cracks it has. on the surface, called “Kannyu”, which increases its taste and beauty.
