Shincha is the freshest tea of the year, made from the very first harvest of spring. Our "Oo Hashiri" tea, grown in the Satsuma region of Kagoshima, in southern Japan, draws its richness from the mild, sunny climate bordering the Pacific Ocean. In Japanese, "hashiri" evokes the idea of running: the feeling of the producers hurrying through the rows of tea bushes to harvest the very first young shoots.
The buds form in autumn, remain closed throughout the winter, and then open in early spring. These young leaves concentrate a great sweetness and a particular freshness thanks to the theanine preserved during the winter. Harvested around mid-April 2026, our "Oo Hashiri" thus reveals a vibrant cup, delicately vegetal and profoundly spring-like.
In Ei-chō, in the highlands of Kagoshima, the mist-shrouded plantations benefit from significant temperature variations, allowing the leaves to grow slowly and develop a rich aroma. The producer, MShimokubo carefully cultivates its soils using a natural compost composed primarily of rice bran and bamboo powder. This loose soil promotes deep root growth and the vigorous development of tea plants.
Among its harvests, the "Shigeru No. 2" cultivar holds a special place. Its leaves offer a deep structure, a beautiful sweetness, and a richness on the palate characteristic of the great shincha of Kagoshima.
Available only during the early season, "Oo Hashiri" tea is offered in limited quantities, with only 100 bags available this year.
